The Rich Valley Golf Project
A sustainable redevelopment of an inactive farm into an event & entertainment complex
Mechanicsburg, PA
This project is a kind of Gesamtkunstwerk, where over a decade, A+M and collaborators have designed (and often constructed, fabricated, planted, executed, etc.) the totality of the master and landscape plan, new and repurposed buildings, interiors, graphic programs, and building signage and wayfinding. The new buildings for RVG were created using the existing typology and materiality of a Pennsylvania Bank Barn, and literally replaced or reused the existing barns on the site. Site management, landscape design, and auxiliary buildings were also a part of the comprehensive design effort at Rich Valley. Inside, the comprehensive interior design effort also included millwork, large scale murals and graphic identity. For environmental signage small sketches were reproduced at live (or larger) scale, a contemporary version of local folk-art that provided a “budget neutrality” for the project.
The latest addition to RVG complex in Central PA, is the mini-golf landscape, designed and fabricated out of commonly available mundane materials to produce an environment beyond the standard-issue “pirate ship” setup.
