Apartment
Midtown, NYC
To take advantage of generous pre-war ceiling heights in this tiny 1-bedroom apartment (itself a result of carving up of large parlor in the 1920s), a steel and acrylic structure was inserted over the kitchen space. Inspired by a 19th century university library, this new diaphanous structure created a work area above and clearly delineating kitchen, dining and living zones. The new gallery also allows access to space above bedroom closet for additional storage.
